About Netizenship

It has been observed that even as the Internet provides access to volumes of new information, ease of communication and a variety of tools that enable active citizenship, too few take advantage of the opportunities to be better informed or engaged citizens.

Anyone on the Internet is said to be a netizen, but it’s this site’s intention to extend that definition to those who apply the Internet to their participation in campaigns, elections and government.  In short, this site will serve to advocate for netizenship.

Rather than write frequent, brief and of-the-moment running commentary — a fate that seems to befall most other blogs — Netizenship will feature posts in the style of op-eds, analyses of major events and speeches, and reviews of important Internet-based tools that can be helpful in active citizenship.

When asked recently how he would describe what he does, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and columnist George Will said he “reasoned publicly.”  That is what this website seeks to do.  As issues and events arise, a question will be proferred, and an answer reasoned that inspires civil debate.
